Workana gets funding commission from Seek

Argentina-based freelance hiring platform Workana has received R$23m ($6.8m) in funding from recruitment firm Seek Group, Baguette has reported.

Founded in 2012, Workana operates an online marketplace for freelancers who provide services such as web design, copywriting and marketing. The platform is available across Latin America and has registered more than 1 million freelancers.

Workana now plans to enter Southeast Asia in response to forecasts suggesting internet usage among the region’s populace will become the heaviest globally by the end of 2018. It has now raised a total of more than $10.3m, according to Baguette.

Seek is a past investor in Workana, having injected $540,000 in capital in 2016 and a further $2.4m in March 2017 according to media reports. Workana graduated from accelerator NXTP Labs in 2012.
