Xerox creates CareAR

Printing technology producer Xerox has formed CareAR, a US-based augmented reality (AR) technology developer, with a $10m investment from enterprise software company ServiceNow.

The business combines AR technology producer CareAR with content management system DocuShare and multi-channel marketing software provider XMPie.

Xerox agreed to acquire the original CareAR business for an undisclosed sum in January 2021. The startup had already secured a strategic partnership with ServiceNow in June 2020.

ServiceNow’s investment in the new CareAR business has provided it with a $700m post-money valuation.

CareAR operates an support platform that allows users to remotely interact with and guide customers and employees through AR technology. Its product allows the employees of field service-oriented companies to access real-time instruction, visual tools and data to support their work.Steve Bandrowczak

Steve Bandrowczak, president and chief operations officer of Xerox, will lead CareAR and serve as its chairman, while Sam Waicberg, founder and former CEO of CareAR, will become president at the unit.

John Ball, senior vice president of customer workflows at ServiceNow, said: “Our investment reflects our belief that CareAR has the potential to deliver world-class, enterprise-grade augmented reality.

“Customers using CareAR’s augmented reality to route work through ServiceNow’s leading workflow platform can better solve problems remotely, speeding resolution times and reducing the need for expensive on-site visits, which also reduces carbon emissions dramatically.”
