Zarlink Semiconductor, a Toronto-listed chip maker, has invested half of the $10m series C round for Multigig, a fabless semiconductor company that provides advanced clock generation and timing products for the wired and wireless communications markets.
Venture capital (VC) firms CMEA Capital and Sierra Ventures made up the other $5m in the C round.
Multigig’s RotaryWave technology delivers clocks with extremely low jitter for high-speed communication applications and Kirk Mandy, executive president of Zarlink, said: "There is growing demand for new timing technologies for wired and wireless applications."
In October, Michael Canning, an adviser at IT-Farm, joined Multigig as chief executive with Haris Basit, co-founder and former CEO , becoming chief strategy officer with responsibility for business development of RotaryWave.
Multigig ‘s series B round closed at $12.5m in May 2008 from CMEA, Sierra and Malaysia-based VC peer Hi-Tech Venture Capital.
