US-based automotive analytics provider Zendrive has received $13.5m in a series A round that included BMW I Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of automotive manufacturer BMW.
Venture capital firm Sherpa Capital led the round, which also featured Nyca Partners, Thomvest Ventures, First Round Capital, Fontinalis Partners and angel investor Tad Montross.
Zendrive produces software that uses mobile sensors to provide data on driver behaviour such as acceleration, braking, swerving or phone use that can be utilised by its clients to improve automotive safety.
The company is targeting the offering at businesses in the commercial fleet, insurance, city planning, mapping, driving instruction and roadside assistance sectors. It will use the series A funds to grow its team and further develop its technology.
Zendrive has now raised $15m altogether, having secured $1.5m in a 2013 seed round backed by First Round and angel investors including Max Levchin, Jerry Yang and Tim Ferriss.
