US-based mobile threat defence provider Zimperium closed a $25m series C round yesterday that featured Telstra Ventures, the corporate venturing division of telecoms firm Telstra.
The round was led by private equity firm Warburg Pincus and also included VC firm Sierra Ventures and investment management firm Lazarus Israel Opportunities Fund.
Telstra Ventures previously led a $12m series B round in February 2015 that featured engineering company Toyo Corporation and consumer electronics conglomerate Samsung as well as Sierra and Lazarus. Sierra provided $8m in series A capital in 2013.
Zimperium has created on-device software that is able to protect mobile devices running Android or iOS from cyberattacks.
The latest cash injection will allow Zimperium to expand its customer reach, boost its partner ecosystem and further develop its technology. The company also hopes to create additional products.
Cary Davis and Ashutosh Somani, managing directors at Warburg Pincus, will join Zimperium’s board of directors.
Mark Sherman, managing director of Telstra Ventures, said: “With the number of mobile vulnerabilities increasing by the day, it is important for companies to understand the latest security risks and stay ahead of emerging threats.
“Zimperium’s top-notch research team, zLabs, is leading the game when it comes to action-oriented research that helps protect the entire mobile security ecosystem.”
