Microsoft Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of software company Microsoft, has participated in a $22.5m series C round for US-based business texting service Zipwhip, TechCrunch reported yesterday.
The round was led by venture capital firm OpenView, while Voyager Capital also supplied funds.
Zipwhip’s technology enables users to send text messages from any landline or other non-mobile phone number. The company also offers an enterprise-grade cloud-based platform for mobile and landline operators.
The series C will allow Zipwhip to boost its userbase, develop more features and enter additional partnerships. The company aims to be one of the first to support Business Chat, a service recently announced by technology firm Apple that will let businesses contact customers through iMessage.
Zipwhip has raised nearly $40m to date, according to TechCrunch. The company previously obtained $9m in a series B round in October 2016 that included Microsoft Ventures and Voyager Capital, which led the round.
