AAA Google backs Weotta

Google backs Weotta

US-based Weotta, a startup backed by Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of search engine Google, has launched an application with an undisclosed amount of funding. The app is a local discovery app that also tracks what your friends like using Facebook.

The company has said it has also received backing from Dave Morin‘s Slow Ventures, and Gil Elbaz and David Waxman‘s TenOneTen Capital. Original funding came from Data Collective Venture Capital, Crosslink Capital, and Eric Blachford, former chief executive of Expedia.

Weotta was founded by chief executive Grant Wernick, an early adviser to AngelList and the Kauffman Foundation, and chief technology officer Jacob Perkins.
