Ossia, a US-based developer of remote, wireless charging technology, has raised $10m in series A funding after attracting mobile network operator KDDI to its list of backers.
KDDI, which invested through its KDDI Open Innovation Fund, joined Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of chip maker Intel, and human resources provider Recruit Holdings in the round.
The company previously raised $6m from angel investors, families and friends, Ossia founder and chief executive Hatem Zeine told FierceWireless.
Ossia’s technology revolves around Cota, a wireless charging system that can charge all devices within a radius of 30 feet simultaneously and on a single charge. Existing devices can be retrofitted with Cota receivers.
Intel and Ossia are currently working together on advancing wearable technology and internet of things devices. Ossia plans on using the funding to increase its number of business partnerships and to support the eventual commercialisation of its technology.
