NatureBox packages $30m series C

NatureBox, a US-based snack box subscription service backed by telecommunications and internet company SoftBank, has attracted $30m for a series C round, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday.

Global Founders Capital, the venture capital fund affiliated with e-commerce holding company Rocket Internet, led the round.

SoftBank Capital, SoftBank’s corporate venturing subsidiary, also contributed capital to the round, as did Canaan Partners, General Catalyst Partners, Neuberger Berman Private Equity Funds, Kensington Capital Holdings, Valley Oak Investment Partners, General Catalyst Partners and a range of private investors.

NatureBox delivers personalised boxes filled with five different healthy snacks on a weekly, monthly, bimonthly or quarterly basis to subscribers who can customise their boxes from a range of more than 100 options, accounting for taste and allergies.

The funding will be used to develop new products, increase brand awareness in the US and abroad, and to ink partnerships with companies that can help grow sales or hand out free samples.

NatureBox has already struck such a deal with airline company American Airlines, which purchases the company’s products and hands them out to passengers on morning flights.

SoftBank Capital participated in an $18m series B round for NatureBox in April 2014 that was led by Canaan Partners and which also featured General Catalyst Partners.

SoftBank had previously taken part in an $8.5m series A round in 2013 led by General Catalyst, which also participated in a $2m seed round alongside Redpoint Ventures in 2012.
