Taiwan-based animation company Next Media has helped US-based gaming company Red Robot Labs raise $5m.
The two companies have announced a strategic partnership. Next Media Animation, an associated company of Next Media Group, plans to work with Red Robot’s proprietary R2 mobile gaming platform. Red Robot will also work with Next Media to launch its game Life is Crime in Asia.
Jimmy Lai, chairman of Next Media, said: "Next Media Animation is known for creating addictive content. We have been looking to expand into location-based gaming, but we were waiting for the right technology. We found it in Red Robot’s R2 platform. We can’t wait to let our creatives loose on their cutting-edge technology to see what we can do."
Red Robot Labs raised $8.5m last year from Benchmark Capital and Shasta Ventures, Rick Thompson, co-founder of Playdom, and Chamath Palihapitiya, a former Facebook executive, according to news provider VentureBeat. It previously raised $2m in seed capital, Venture Beat added.
The company’s game Life is Crime has secured more than one million users, the company said.
