US-based digital content delivery service Akamai Technologies, is set to acquire US-based Prolexic, a distributed denial of dervice (DDoS) protection services for $370m, plus the assumption of outstanding unvested options to purchase Prolexic stock. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2014.
Chief executive of Akamai, Tom Leighton, said: “By joining forces with Prolexic, we intend to combine Akamai’s leading security and performance platform with Prolexic’s highly-regarded DDoS mitigation solutions for data center and enterprise applications protection. We believe that Prolexic’s solutions and team will help us achieve our goal of making the Internet fast, reliable, and secure.”
In July Prolexic closed a $30m series C round of funding led by Trident Capital and Intel Capital, the corporate investment arm of the US microprocessor maker Intel.
The Company raised $8m in 2012 in a B round led by Camden Partners. In March 2011 Prolexic closed a $13.9m growth funding round led by Kennet Partners.
Last year, Akamai accquired Cotendo, a developer of cloud-based acceleration technologies, for $268m in cash and Verivue, a third party web and network hosting company backed by Comcast Interactive Capital, in a cash transaction.
