Alexandrian dives into Canopy Rivers

Canopy Rivers, the corporate venture capital arm of Canada-based medical marijuana producer Canopy Growth, promoted Narbe Alexandrian, its former vice-president of business development, to president this month.

The unit, which went public in September 2018, recently led a $9m convertible debt financing round for plant-based food and beverage producer Greenhouse Juice and a $12.1m series A round for cannabis-focused data analytics platform provider Headset immediately prior to Alexandrian’s promotion.

Since becoming president, Alexandrian helped Canopy Rivers provide $1.1m in seed capital for Herbert Works, a Canada-based cannabis beverage and edibles-focused platform operator, last week.

Alexandrian said: “I believe that the team at Canopy Rivers has developed one of the most attractive and compelling platforms in the cannabis industry today.

“With our access to dealflow, our management and advisory team of specialists and industry thought-leaders, all supplemented with strategic support and insight from the industry’s global leader, Canopy Rivers has built the ideal structure to attack the market, identify best-of-breed companies and operators, and support them both financially and operationally.”

Before joining Canopy Rivers, Alexandrian had been a senior associate at Omers Ventures, the venture capital arm of Canada-based pension fund Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, for more than three years since 2014. He was involved in investments in Kaleo Software, Fusebill and Vidyard.
