Amadeus Ventures checks into Asia Pacific

Amadeus Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Spain-based travel technology provider Amadeus IT Group, will commence dealmaking in the Asia-Pacific region in the first quarter of 2020, KrAsia reported on Monday.

The unit will target the area as it believes the market there is ripe for travel-focused plays and business models that efficiently translate into other territories.

Amadeus Ventures currently has 10 companies in its portfolio including travel location rating platform Avuxi, interior navigation software provider Situm and bus ticket-booking portal Betterez.

The Asia-Pacific operation will be led by Stephanie Strunk, who previously worked for Amadeus IT as a senior corporate strategy analyst between 2013 and 2016 before moving to a community manager position.

Suzanna Chiu, head of Amadeus Ventures, said: “Startups struggle to gain competitive advantage against large enterprises and if they do, most of the time they do not know how to navigate the landscape.

“We not only offer funding but also our industry expertise and network to help young startups achieve their strategic and commercial goals.”
