Canada-based app testing platform Buddybuild was acquired by computing company Apple for an undisclosed sum yesterday, providing an exit to media company Bloomberg’s early-stage investment subsidiary, Bloomberg Beta.
Founded in 2015, Buddybuild offers mobile app development tools for Apple’s iOS operating system as well as the rival Android platform, though its support for the latter will now cease in March 2018.
Buddybuild’s platform includes continuous integration and delivery, user feedback and crash reporting, and is used by audio streaming portal SoundCloud and media company New York Times.
Apple plans to integrate the technology with its in-house Xcode development suite, and Buddybuild’s team will continue to operate through its offices in Vancouver.
Bloomberg Beta backed Buddybuild’s $7.6m series A round in May 2016, which was led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers and backed by fellow venture capital firms Amplify Partners and First Round Capital.
Bloomberg, Amplify and First Round had previously supplied $1.2m in seed funding for the company in February 2016 alongside assorted angel investors.
