Star Festival, the Japan-based operator of food delivery website Gochikuru, has raised $27.4m in funding from office equipment supplier Askul, The Bridge reported on Saturday.
Gree Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of internet media company Gree, invested $2.5m in Star Festival in 2012 alongside venture capital firm Globis Capital Partners.
Askul invested the money as part of a partnership agreement that will involve Star Festival using Askul’s logistics subsidiary Bizex to deliver lunch boxes, while Askul will utilise Star Festival’s delivery vehicles to send office supplies.
Star Festival, which claims to have served over 5 million customers, is also backed by venture capital firm Jafco Ventures. Jafco invested $10m in Star Festival in 2013 to expand the Tokyo-based bento box delivery company into new cities.
