Venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates has led a $19.3m series D round into US-based website BuzzFeed.
There was also involvement from return backers venture capital firms RRE Ventures and Lerer Ventures, Hearst Interactive and Softbank Capital Also participating as new investors were Buddy Media co-founders Michael and Kass Lazerow.
The new funds will be used for mobile and video development, editorial hires and international expansion.
Founded in 2006, the portfolio company has raised $46m in total. Last year BuzzFeed raised $15.5m in series C financing from a pool of investors including corporate venturing units belonging to Japan-based conglomerate Softbank and media conglomerate Hearst Media. The company raised $8m in its series B in 2010 and $3.5m in a 2008 A round.
The company claims to have over 40 million unique users a month.
