Freelancer sourcing software provider CareerGig acquired Moonlighting, the US-based developer of a recruitment platform for the gig economy, for an undisclosed sum yesterday, allowing media groups McClatchy, Gannett and Tronc to exit.
Founded in 2014, Moonlighting manages an online network of more than 850,000 freelancers and small businesses, displaying job listings for contract gigs, part-time jobs and internships.
The companies will combine their operations over the next few months and operate under the CareerGig brand. Moonlighting CEO and co-founder Jeff Tennery has been appointed chief business development officer at CareerGig.
Tennery said: “CareerGig is the ideal partner for Moonlighting to take this next step in supporting freelancers around the world. Their team shares our same passion and vision to deliver the best marketplace platform for the gig economy.”
Moonlighting raised $1.9m in a 2015 seed round led by McClatchy that also featured New Richmond Ventures, Baltimore Angels and Paul Palmieri. McClatchy then co-led a $2.3m round the following year with Gannett and Tronc, increasing the company’s overall funding to $4.2m.
