US-based network services provider Embrane has secured $14m in a series C round led by computing company Cisco.
Presidio Ventures, the US-based corporate venturing subsidiary of Japan-based conglomerate Sumitomo, also participated in the round, as did existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates and North Bridge Venture Partners. Embrane has now raised $41m in total funding since it was founded in 2009.
The company plans to invest the funds in its application-centric network service offering, which includes firewalls, virtual private networks, load balancers and SSL offload engines, and to pursue a go-to-market strategy and expand support for third-party virtual network service appliances.
“As one of the first companies to create a software-defined networking solution that adds agility to the network and network services, we are ready to take the next step to accelerate our growth,” said Embrane CEO Dante Malagrinò. “This new financing along with the addition of Cisco as an investor and strategic partner is a significant step in the evolution of Embrane.”
