Citrix agrees to buy Netviewer

Nasdaq-listed software company Citrix Systems has agreed to acquire Netviewer, a Germany-based vendor backed by local phone operator Deutsche Telekom’s corporate venturing unit.

Netviewer will become part of the Citrix’s online subsidiary to help the group expand in Europe.

Netviewer has more than 18,000 corporations and mid-size companies from 68 different countries, including Bayer, BMW, SAP, Siemens, Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom and Swisscom.

Deutsche Telekom’s T-Online Venture Fund and venture capital firm European Founders Fund invested €7m in NetViewer in October 2008, and a further €9m was raised a year earlier from venture capital firms Invision Private Equity and TVM Capital.

Patrick Meisberger, manager of the T-Online fund, by email said: “Unfortunately, we will not be able to disclose any financials for the transaction. Just that you know we are very happy with the outcome and made a very nice ROI ;-))).”
