ClearSky Data shines with $27m series B

US-based data storage management company ClearSky Data has raised $27m in a series B round backed by content delivery network provider Akamai, TechCrunch reported today.

The round was led by Polaris Partners and also featured General Catalyst and Highland Capital Partners.

Founded in 2013, ClearSky’s software helps automatically distribute a business’ data across different storage services. The most important documents are kept in a data centre on site, less important data at a co-location facility within 120 miles and even less crucial data in the cloud.

ClearSky emerged out of stealth in August 2015, but had already obtained $12.4m in series A funding in January 2014 from General Catalyst and Highland Capital.

The capital injection will support staff recruitment and an expansion across the US and internationally. ClearSky currently operates co-location data centres in Boston, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.
