US-based software company Cloudera closed its $40m series D round yesterday, having received funding from backers including In-Q-Tel, the US Central Intelligence Agency’s venturing fund.
The round was led by venture capital (VC) firm Ignition Partners, while other participants included VC firms Accel Partners and Greylock Partners, and private equity firm Meritech Capital Partners.
The round marks the entry point for In-Q-Tel but Meritech, Accel and Greylock all supported Cloudera’s series C round, which raised $25m in October last year. Prior to that, Accel and Greylock participated in Cloudera’s $5m series A and $6m series B round, both of which took place in 2009.
Cloudera is one of the leading developers of software based around distributed data software framework Apache Hadoop, and also provides training and certification services for the platform. Cloudera plans to use the capital to expand its sales and marketing departments, and to support future strategic initiatives.
