CME and Verizon light up SparkCognition’s series B

US-based security analytics technology developer SparkCognition has closed a $6m series B round that included futures company CME Group and telecommunications network Verizon.

The corporates, which invested through their respective corporate venturing subsidiaries CME Ventures and Verizon Ventures, were joined in the oversubscribed round by The Entrepreneurs’ Fund (TEF) and Alameda Ventures.

SparkCognition’s machine learning technology makes models of physical and virtual assets that can continuously be adapted by new data, and which organisations can use to get information that can help them protect assets.

The company has not disclosed the amount it raised in earlier funding, though it did receive $375,000 in 2013 according to a securities filing. Its previous capital was provided by TEF, Alameda Ventures and MSD Capital.

SparkCognition was also a top 10 winner in 2015’s Nokia Open Innovation Challenge in November 2015, receiving the Investors Choice award for most attractive investment opportunity.
