Cognata digs in for series B round

Israel-based autonomous driving simulator developer Cognata has closed an $18.5m series B round backed by Airbus Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of aerospace manufacturer Airbus.

Venture capital firm Scale Venture Partners led the round, which also featured Emerge, Maniv Mobility, Global IoT Technology Ventures and undisclosed existing investors.

Founded in 2016, Cognata has developed a virtual simulation for testing autonomous vehicles that uses a combination of artificial intelligence, deep learning and computer vision to faithfully recreate real vehicles and terrains.

The series B capital will support Cognata’s plans to expand its engineering team and build up its operations in the US, Europe and Asia. The company has partnered car manufacturer Audi to provide its simulator to the corporate’s Autonomous Intelligent Driving unit.

Airbus Ventures had previously participated in a $5m round for Cognata in June 2017, with participation from both Emerge and Maniv Mobility.
