Stoke, a US-based developer of mobile broadband gateways, named Charles Corbalis as vice president of engineering on Monday. Corbalis was hired from digital video processing specialist RGB Networks where he held the same role.
Prior to his time at RGB, Corbalis was a co-founder of both photonic switch company Calient Networks and cell switch developer StrataCom. Corbalis’ role at Stoke will involve leading the engineering and roll out of Stoke’s product range
Corbalis said: "Mobile broadband is the one of the most exciting areas of technology. Stoke’s approach is highly differentiated, as a provider of innovative and elegant offerings that help operators address the new industry dynamics. The company is emerging as a mainstream contributor to the industry and I am delighted to join the company at this stage in its growth."
Stoke has raised $92m in capital over five rounds with the latest investment coming in a $17m series E round in January last year. Investors include several venture capital firms as well as corporate venturing units Docomo Capital, Reliance Technology Ventures and Presidio Ventures, which represents the Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation.
