The percentage of dollars in venture capital (VC) investments which came from corporate venture capital (CVC) in the second quarter of 2013 was 13.5%, according to latest industry data produced by the National Venture Capital Association. In the second quarter of 2013, there were 914 VC deals, of which 145 included CVC; the total amount of VC investment was $6,726.9m, which included a total CVC amount of $909.2m.
These figures compare to 2012 Q2, when 971 VC deals were recorded, of which 153 included CVC; the total amount of VC investment was $7,354.6m, which included a total CVC amount of $572.3m.
In the first half of 2013, the sectors with the highest percentage of CVC involvement have been retailing/distribution (CVC represented 20.3% of $721.1m VC invested in the sector), healthcare services (13% of $344.7m), and Industrial/Energy (12.4% of $3,412.4m). The sector which has attracted the most VC investment has been software, in which $12,768m has been invested by all VC types, out of which CVC invested $1,012.5m (7.9%).
