Big data analytics provider Teradata has acquired US-based big data archiving technology company Rainstor for an undisclosed amount, enabling several corporate backers to exit.
Rainstor had raised approximately $29m in funding, including $12m from a 2012 series C round co-led by financial services firm Credit Suisse and Rogers Venture Partners, the corporate venturing arm of cable and telecom service provider Rogers Communications.
Chemicals producer Dow Chemical and private equity fund manager Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures had backed Rainstor since series A stage, while data integration software producer Informatica and venture firm Storm Ventures were also investors.
Rainstor is the creator of a specialised data repository system based around Hadoop big data software.
Teradata, which first formed a data integration partnership with Rainstor in 2010, will add the company’s technology to its big data analytics portfolio. It is Teradata’s fourth big data acquisition of 2014, following the purchases of Revelytix, Hadapt, and Think Big Analytics.
