Data.world records $12m in funding

Workday Ventures, the corporate venture capital vehicle for enterprise software provider Workday, has led a $12m round for US-based data collaboration software developer Data.world, TechCrunch has reported.

Media company Associated Press and equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd also took part in the round, which increased Data.world’s funding to $45.3m altogether according to TechCrunch.

Data.world has built an online platform that enables users to share and contextualise datasets and communicate with each other through social tools. The funding will support the ongoing commercialisation of its enterprise product.

Shasta Ventures led Data.world’s $14m series A round in July 2016, investing alongside Capital Factory, Chicago Ventures, Floodgate, Fyrfly Venture Partners, Homebrew, Lead Edge Capital, LiveOak Venture Partners and Rothenberg Ventures.

The company added $18.7m in a February 2017 series B round led by Pat Ryan’s family investment group and backed by Chicago Ventures, Fyrfly, LiveOak, Hunt Technology Ventures, Shasta Ventures and Sherpa Asset Management.

Samsung Next, a corporate venturing subsidiary of consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung, lists Data.world as a portfolio company but has not revealed when it invested.
