Dell sets up corporate venturing unit

Dell has reopened a corporate venturing unit, which is headed up by Jim Lussier, formerly from venture firm Norwest Venture Partners.

Dell joins the ranks of large companies which have set up a corporate venturing unit this year including US-based natural gas business Chesapeake and Germany-based automobile manufacturer BMW. Global Corporate Venturing research shows more than 80 corporates have set up funds this year, a record for the sector.

The venture unit will be known as Dell Corporate Ventures, according to news provider Dow Jones VentureWire.

Ingrid Vanderveldt would also join the company as Dell’s first entrepreneur in residence, VentureWire said, which she has confirmed on her LinkedIn profile.

Vanderveldt is founding organiser of the Glass Forum, an annual event held for women investing in sustainable businesses and chief executive of Green Girl Energy, a renewable energy business.
