DNA Nexus sequences $15m with Google

Google Ventures has helped DNA Nexus, a DNA data cloud computing company, raise $15m.

The corporate venturing unit of US-based search engine Google and TPG Biotech, the life science venture arm of US private equity TPG, have joined the DNA company as new backers. Geoff Duyk, partner and managing director at TPG Biotech, and Krishna Yeshwant, partner at Google Ventures, will be joining DNA Nexus’ board.

The backers were joined by venture firms First Round Capital, SoftTech VC, K9 Ventures, and Felicis VC.

Yeshwant said: "At Google Ventures, we’re passionate about tackling the world’s most challenging and important problems. Our investment in DNA Nexus is a manifestation of that belief. Their vision of revolutionising the field of bioinformatics is extremely compelling, and has the potential to change DNA management and analysis. Our experience working with large and complex data sets makes us truly enthusiastic about both the SRA collaboration with Google and the Google Ventures investment."

DNA Nexus’s first round of funding raised $1.55m in 2009, according to news provide VentureBeat.
