Digital file hosting company Dropbox made its first acquisition on Monday, purchasing Cove, an organisational collaboration startup founded by three ex-Facebook engineers, for an undisclosed sum.
Cove was founded in 2010 by husband and wife Aditya Agarwal and Ruchi Sanghvi together with another ex-Facebook employee, Akhil Wable, and Joshua Jenkins, formerly with HP, picking up $2.1m in seed funding from angels including Peter Thiel and Ron Conway.
Dropbox operates a cloud storage service in which users can store and share files online with others, and its model is especially convenient for mobile device users. All four Cove team members will come on board post-acquisition, and some features of Cove, which was still operating in stealth mode at the time of the deal, will be incorporated into Dropbox.
The move follows a $250m series B round closed by Dropbox in October featuring financial services firm Goldman Sachs and several VC investors.
