Enlightened Hospitality Investments (EHI), the investment arm of restaurant operator Union Square Hospitality Group, has led a $20m series B round for Goldbelly, the US-based operator of a specialty food retail platform.
The round included Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor technology producer Intel, as well as venture capital firms 500 Startups and 645 Ventures. It increased the company’s overall funding to $33m.
Founded as Goldbely, Goldbelly sources food from specialist producers across the US, making them available to customers nationwide through its online platform. In addition to allowing users to search for items by food, the platform enables the producers themselves to run online stores.
Danny Meyer, Union Square’s founder and CEO as well as a partner at EHI, will join Goldbelly’s board of directors in conjunction with its investment.
Intel Capital co-led the company’s $10m series A round in March 2017 with Global Founders Capital, investing alongside 500 Startups, 645 Ventures, CrunchFund and FundersClub.
The series A followed a $3m seed round in 2013 that was also led by Intel Capital and backed by 500 Startups, Funders Club, Y Combinator, Ace & Company, Dave McClure and Tim Draper.
