Room 77, a US-based hotel search engine, has raised $30.3m in its series C round from a consortium including US-listed travel reservation provider Expedia as a new investor.
Expedia joined travel expense software provider Concur Technologies and venture capital firms Sutter Hill Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, Par Capital Management, Pilot Group and Felicis Ventures in the C round.
Business angels in the round included Expedia and real estate company Zillow founder Rich Barton, former Expedia chief executive (CEO) Erik Blachford, Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff and co-founder Lloyd Frink, Nor1 co-founders Art Norins and Jason Bryant and Bing.com global travel industry director Krista Pappas. Room 77 has raised almost $44m in aggregate, including $3m in it’s A round in March 2010 and $10.5m in its B round in July 2011.
Dara Khosrowshahi, Expedia executive president, said: “Metasearch is an increasingly important model and complementary to our travel transaction businesses.
“The level of innovation and depth of content at Room 77 excites us about its future role in this important customer acquisition channel.”
Last month, Expedia bought Germany-based hotel search company Trivago from its management and venture backers Insight Venture Partners and Howzat Partners for nearly $500m in cash and stock.
