US news provider Washington Post has reportedly continued backing Fab.com, a design website which started out as a social network for gay men.
Fab.com, which now sells design items, but started out as Fabulis, the gay social network, has raised $8m, according to news provider TechCrunch. It has done so in Series A funding led by Menlo Ventures. Other participants in the round were the Washington Post, Fab.com founder and chief executive Jason Goldberg, movie star Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary, former chairman of music label Maverick Records, venture capital firms First Round Capital, Baroda Ventures, A-Grade Investments, SofTech VC, SV Angel and Zelkova Ventures, TechCrunch said.
The amount raised takes the company to about $11.6m in total. Fab.com has 350,000 members, after it launched the design website in June, TechCrunch said.
