Diversified internet company Google agreed on Wednesday to acquire US-based developer cloud communications technology provider Jibe Mobile in a deal that will give an exit to mobile network Vodafone.
Founded in 2006, Jibe has built an open end-to-end technology platform that enables mobile carriers to add features like video calling, group chat and large media-file sharing to their product offering.
The amount Google is paying for Jibe has not been disclosed, but it is making the acquisition to enhance its rich communications services offering.
Jibe raised $800,000 in angel funding in 2007 before closing an $8.3m round in 2012 led by Vodafone Ventures, Vodafone’s corporate venturing unit. The 2012 round also featured mobile content provider MTI and other, undisclosed investors.
