Mobile games company Bionic Panda secured an undisclosed amount of seed funding on Tuesday from investors including Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit belonging to internet company Google.
Google was joined in the round by investment firm Norwest Venture Partners, early stage venture capital firm SoftTech VC, startup accelerator 500 Startups and additional angel investors.
Founded in the US in 2010, Bionic Panda’s chief executive and co-founder, Charles Hudson, is a Venture Partner at Softech as well as an ex-employee of Google. Bionic Panda’s first release, Aqua Pets, has achieved three million downloads since its release in February, and it is currently developing both a number of additional titles and a social platform able to connect players within its game network.
Joe Kraus, partner at Google Ventures, said: "There are tremendous opportunities to build mobile game franchises on the Android platform. Bionic Panda is an early leader on the Android platform and we are excited to work with their team as they pursue their passion for developing the next generation of casual mobile social games."
