Gorilla Technology Group, a Taiwan-based big data and video analytics company, has obtained an undisclosed sum for a series C round from telecommunications company Telstra’s corporate venturing arm Telstra Ventures.
The company has not disclosed details about previous funding rounds, but its existing investors include IT storage provider EMC, smartphone manufacturer HTC and venture capital firm Morningside Technology Investments.
Founded in 2000, Gorilla originally focused on broadcast media and video surveillance but has grown to also provide business intelligence across sectors including retail and government.
The series C funding will be used to further develop Gorilla’s big data and analytics platform and to increase its global sales and marketing efforts.
Telstra will integrate and resell Gorilla’s technology to its business customers and convert their raw video data into real-time, searchable data and catalogues.
Spincer Koh, chief executive of Gorilla, said: “We see this investment as a first step in the roll out of software-based services, with Gorilla leveraging Telstra’s state-of-the-art global cloud and telecoms infrastructure to capture new business opportunities worldwide.”
