Advanced composites producer Hexcel has invested an undisclosed amount in US-based carbon fibre recycling services provider Carbon Conversions Incorporated (CCI) as part of a strategic partnership agreement.
CCI has created a process that reclaims carbon fibre from scrapped parts and recycles and repurposes it for use in advanced materials. It has not disclosed any previous funding.
Mark Mauhar, chief executive of CCI, said: “We look forward to working with Hexcel, a leader in carbon fibre solutions, to bring our recycling and repurposing technologies to a broader market.
“Hexcel’s investment provides for us a valuable recycling material stream and enables us to further expand production capacity and research capability. In addition, this investment supports joint technology collaboration and business development efforts for specific aerospace applications with Hexcel.”
