Holtzbrinck Ventures in $24m Wooga investment

Wooga, a Germany-based developer of online games whose name stands for world of gaming, has raised $24m in its series B round from local media company Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group’s former corporate venturing unit.

Holtzbrinck Ventures (HV), which became independent in January, reinvested in Wooga, whose B round was led by venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners and joined by peers Tenaya Capital and Balderton Capital. Wooga has created games including the popular Bubble Island (pictured).

Balderton and HV had invested $7.5m in Wooga in 2009 and the company has become the world’s fourth-largest games developer.
