Homejoy, a US-based domestic cleaning services company which provides online booking of a home cleaner at $20 an hour, has closed an additional $38m in financing to its A and B rounds: Google Ventures, the venturing arm of internet firm Google, led the series A investment and contributed to a series B led by venture capital firm Redpoint Ventures. Max Levchin, First Round Capital, Oliver Jung, Mike Hirshland, and others also contributed, bringing the company’s total funding to $40 million.
Joe Kraus, general partner at Google Ventures, and Geoff Yang, founding partner of Redpoint Ventures, have joined Homejoy’s board.
Homejoy was founded by Adora and Aaron Cheung in July 2012, with the aim “to make cleaning services available to a broad audience, rather than a luxury for the rich.”
Adora Cheung, chief executive officer and co-founder, said in a blogpost: “My brother Aaron and I founded Homejoy when we realized that people wanted a simple and convenient way to book a trusted, reliable home cleaner. We started small by cleaning ourselves and in the last year have assembled a dream team that has rapidly scaled our platform to 31 cities across the United States and Canada. Our continuous double-digit growth positioned us as the leader in the home services space and, as a result, drew a lot of interest from potential investors.”
