Horizn Studios bags series A capital

Horizn Studios, a Germany-based smart luggage designer backed by conglomerate Vorwerk, has obtained several million euros (€1 = $1.04) in a series A round that included venture capital firm U-Start, according to Gründerszene.

Vorwerk contributed to a seed round of undisclosed size in July 2015, through its corporate venturing arm Vorwerk Ventures, alongside incubator Project A, which built Horizn, and assorted angel investors. It is not clear if any existing shareholders returned for the latest round.

Founded in 2015, Horizn produces luggage that includes features such as a battery to charge mobile devices and a GPS system to track baggage in case it is lost. The company also creates travel accessories such as passport holders, wallets, laptop bags and standalone phone chargers.

The series A money will go towards an international expansion, beginning with the UK. The company also hopes to significantly increase its headcount from a current 25 staff, though it has not said how many people it intends to hire.
