IDG Ventures, the venture capital division of US-based media and technology conglomerate the International Data Group, is among the investors to have participated in the US-based web translation service Smartling’s $10m series B funding round.
Other backers in the round were existing investors, the US-based venture capital firms US Venture Partners, Venrock and First Round Capital. All three contributed to Smartling’s series A round, which raised $4.1m in March 2010.
Alexander Rosen, a managing director at IDG Ventures, said: "We see great potential in Smartling’s approach to this web challenge. With our firm’s deep media expertise, we’ll work to optimize the solution for publishers large and small."
Smartling said its Translation Delivery Network was the web’s first cloud-based platform for translation management, and reduced the time and cost for companies building multilingual websites. The company plans to use the capital to increase staff numbers and expand its technology base.
