Venture firm Insight Venture Partners has helped Dawanda, a Berin-based online marketplace for handmade items, raise funds.
Insight has invested a double-digit million amount, Dawanda said.
Insight has purchased secondary shares held by existing investors.
Insight’s investment followed a €4m round in November 2011, which was backed by Vorwerk Direct Selling Ventures, the corporate venturing unit ofVorwerk Group and venture firm Piton Capital, according to news provider TechCrunch. Investors Holtzbrinck Ventures, the former corporate venturing unit of Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing, Team Europe Ventures, The European Founders Fund and Point Nine Capital also remained shareholders, TechCrunch added.
DaWanda has since expanded the number of employees from 60 to more than 90 with additional hires planned. DaWanda is also preparing to open the first of its international branches in Paris, with other locations expected to follow later in the year.
Brad Twohig, vice president at Insight will join DaWanda’s Board of Directors.
