Elenza, a US medical device maker formerly known as Ocular Optics, has raised $24m in its series B round from a consortium including Japan-based manufacturer Itochu.
The money will support the clinical development and technology commercialization of Elenza’s patented Electro-active AutoFocal Intraocular Lens to extract eye cataracts and correct presbyopia.
The rest of the B round came from private equity firm Carlyle Group, venture capital firm Delphi Ventures and an undisclosed strategic corporate investor from the ophthalmic industry, as well as Itochu.
Carlyle, Delphi and other private investors provided the A round in 2008.
Magnum Group advised on the B round.
