Jask Labs, a US-based cybersecurity technology developer backed by computing hardware producer Dell, was acquired yesterday by machine data analytics company Sumo Logic for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2015, Jask has created a cybersecurity platform that relies on artificial intelligence and machine learning to combat alarm fatigue – the phenomenon of becoming desensitised to alerts due to their high number, which in turn may cause important information to be missed.
Jask’s technology automatically prioritises security alerts, thereby helping security operations centres protect enterprise networks.
Sumo Logic will integrate Jask’s capabilities into its own continuous intelligence platform, which already boasts a complementary functionality called security information and event management as well as security compliance tools.
Greg Martin, chief executive of Jask, has been named vice-president and general manager of Sumo Logic’s security business unit, while Jask’s employees have also joined the company.
Dell Technologies Capital, the corporate venturing unit of Dell, participated in a $25m series B round in July 2018 alongside lead investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, as well as Battery Ventures, TenEleven Ventures and Vertical Venture Partners.
Dell Technologies Capital and TenEleven Ventures co-led a $12m series A round in 2017, with commitments from Battery Ventures and Vertical Venture Partners. Battery had already led a $2m seed round, with participation from Vertical and assorted private investors, in 2016.
