Johnson & Johnson and PCH launch wellness accelerator

Manufacturing services provider PCH has joined forces with pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson’s corporate venturing subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson Innovation (JJI), to launch a US-based accelerator, Fierce Medical Devices reported yesterday.

The Hardware for Health programme will focus on startups developing hardware for the consumer health market, including the wellness and self-care sectors. The selected companies will receive different amounts of funding dependent on their stage of development.

Participating companies will gain access to JJI’s medical device, pharmaceutical, consumer and regulatory expertise and will also receive office space and help with establishing distribution and marketing channels.

JJI will be responsible for selecting suitable candidates and will take applications on an ongoing basis, while PCH will offer its knowledge of product design, engineering and manufacturing. Hardware for Health will accept companies across a range of stages.

Stacy Feld, senior director of consumer scientific innovation at JJI, said: “There are new devices, new software algorithms, advanced sensor technologies and novel imaging innovations.

“And as these new hardware solutions are converging on the consumer health ecosystem, that is enabling new solutions for consumers to engage in self-care and general health in wellness.”
