Kaplan Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of Washington Post education subsidiary Kaplan, has led the $4.5m series B round for US-based social network ProtonMedia.
Venture capital firms Originate Ventures and Osage Venture Partners reinvested after backing ProtonMedia’s $2.5m series A round.
ProtonMedia said it would use the money to integrate its ProtoSphere virtual collaboration environment in life sciences with ComplianceWire, Kaplan EduNeering’s online learning system, and launch a second-generation virtual collaboration environment that uses Microsoft’s Lync software. Lisa Clune, Kaplan EduNeering’s president, will join ProtonMedia’s board.
Jason Palmer, senior vice-president of Kaplan Ventures, said: "ProtoSphere is powerful online business software that improves learning and retention of business-critical information, all at a lower cost."
