Lakson Investments, the asset management arm of Pakistan-based conglomerate Lakson Group, has secured the country’s first venture capital licence, Lakson Investments CEO Babar Lakhani has announced on LinkedIn.
Lakson Investments, which has some $300m under management, launched a private equity unit in Q4 2016 and will begin investing out of it by autumn this year.
The firm will make seed-stage investments through a vehicle known as Lakson Investments VC and is currently seeking members for its team.
Lakson has not disclosed which areas it plans to target, but Lakson Group as a whole has interests in media, technology, food retail, consumer products and insurance.
