US-based intraocular lens developer LensGen has completed a $21m series A round led by Hoya Ventures, the corporate venture capital vehicle for healthcare and IT technology provider Hoya Group.
Relativity Healthcare Partners also contributed to the round, which includes a provision for the participants to add another $5m in funding.
LensGen is developing what it claims will be the first ever modular, fluid-optic accommodating intraocular lens, in order to restore clear vision for patients suffering from cataracts and presbyopia.
Augustine Yee, head of corporate development for Hoya, said: “As one of the leading global intraocular lens companies, Hoya is very pleased to be working alongside companies like LensGen in advancing potentially meaningful innovations for the ophthalmic community and their patients.”
LensGen had previously raised $1.25m in equity funding across two rounds in 2013 and 2014, according to regulatory filings.
