Media company BskyB has invested $8m in a fund being raised by US-based, digital media-focused venture capital firm Luminari Capital, entertainment news source Variety reported on Wednesday.
Luminari is targeting $40m from the fundraise, and has sourced capital from senior media executives, venture capitalists and high-net-worth individuals, managing partner Daniel Leff told Variety. Leff also detailed the investments made by Luminari since it was launched in early 2013.
The six investments in question were in set top box maker Roku, online video publishing platform Kaltura, home video streaming service 1 Mainstream, Youtube network DanceOn, children’s entertainment platform Plumzi, which raised a seed round in June 2013, and interactive video technology startup Fuisz Media.
Looking ahead, Leff expects most of the firm’s investments to be made either at seed stage or at opportunistic times for later stage companies.
