Maciej Żak joins Intel Capital

Intel Capital has appointed Maciej Żak as investment director to the firm’s investment team for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia. The Central Eastern European team is led by Intel Capital stalwart, Marcin Hejka.

Intel’s new addition to the team will be based in the Warsaw office and will join the team of Marcin Hejka, who came to Intel Capital in 1999 – the same year Intel Capital began investing in Central Eastern Europe from it Polish base – and was appointed Managing Director two years ago.

Mejka has expressed high hopes for the new appointment in developing the burgeoning CEE team.

Mejka said: “We are pleased to welcome Maciej to Intel Capital. I’m sure that his extensive knowledge and expertise will help further strengthen our already successful regional investment team. Central Eastern Europe has become a source of increasing number of innovative technology companies which venture capital backing can help to develop. With the help of Maciej, we hope to enhance our footprint in Poland and the wider region.”

Żak– former Adviser to the Executive Committee of ITI Group – will concentrate his efforts on sourcing and making equity investments across various areas of technology ranging from software and IT services to internet, ecommerce and digital media.

Notable investments in the region to date include those in Wirtualna Polska, iMall, AVG, eTel and Centrum.cz, for which Intel Capital provided growth funding. Others in Intel Capital’s Polish investment portfolio are Wind Mobile, a telecommunication provider in Poland and InteliWISE, an ecommerce software provider.
